Place the pattern before cutting
After designing a dress, select and purchase material such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, or velvet. Place the pattern pieces on the fabric before cutting: their orientation to the grain or bias changes the finished garment’s appearance, and arranging them can reduce wasted material.
Choose how each panel looks
- What should I decide before I cut a panel?
- Choose the fabric for that panel and arrange its pattern along the grain or on the bias deliberately. The fabric arrangement you cut appears on the final dress.
